“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”

– Acts 2:42

Why the Name Tun Tavern Fellowship?

The historic Tun Tavern in Philadelphia is best remembered as the “birthplace” of the United States Marine Corps. The word “Tun” originates in Old English, meaning a large cask or barrel used for storing liquids, especially beer or wine.

For nearly a hundred years, from 1693 to 1781, Tun Tavern served residents and visitors of Philadelphia near the Delaware River waterfront with food, spirits, and sociability.

If we “replace” the beer of the original Tun Tavern with the Holy Spirit, then we have Marines gathering around the Word of God for teaching, fellowship, food, and prayer—that is Tun Tavern Fellowship.

With a classic appreciation for the whole-man concept, we know a spiritually “fit” Marine will be a more effective and resilient warrior.

Whatever your level of faith-walk or interest, you will find a niche and a role on the team. Join us as we equip and train mentors to replicate and bear fruit in the next generation of Marine leaders for the glory of our Lord Jesus.

“I want to say thank you for your mentorship and guidance and discipleship.  Your time and wisdom were a great blessing to me this year and I’m eternally grateful for it.  I Pray that God continues to bless the TTF ministry towards the next generation of USMC leaders.”

— 2nd Lt Matthieu Skrzypczak, Infantry

“Reflecting on blessings today, I’m thankful for the growth I’ve experienced in my walk with Christ since coming to VA – due in no small part to TTF.  Small groups, to include our discipleship triad, were the Acts 2:42 aspect of community I never knew I was missing until I was led to it.“

Capt Jeremy Fisher

“TTF has impacted me in many ways, including wanting to start my own Bible study. Seeing how people in the roughest places can come together and study God‘s word in fellowship Is inspiring. Not only does it teach me, but it convicts me to want to grow and continue living for Jesus.

— LCpl Peter Beers

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

– Heb 10:24-25

3 Annual Conferences

While the primary focus of TTF is on weekly bible studies and discipleship groups and NOT conferences, we have seen the benefit of periodically gathering Marines and chaplains in regional areas at least 3 times a year for the purposes of:
