Meet the Team at Tun Tavern Fellowship

Tun Tavern Fellowship is an all ranks network of Christ-seeking Marines and chaplains, active duty & retired, in and around the Corps.

Our network missionaries are the hands and feet of Tun Tavern Fellowship—bringing encouragement and equipping “in Christ” to Marines every week.

Meet the team God is using, and discover how you can pray, partner, and provide to help enable their ongoing Great Commission work.

Meet Mark Byrd

Mark grew up in Pontiac, Michigan, and joined the Marine Corps in 1985, beginning a 30-year career of service that took him around the world. His duty stations included 1st Battalion 7th Marines, Marine Cadre Duty, Lemoore NAS,,1st Battalion 8th Marines, School of Infantry East, MCRD San Diego, 2nd Battalion 7th Marines, I&I Duty in Wyoming, HMLA-169 at Camp Pendleton, Fitness Report Branch at Quantico, and finally as Base Sergeant Major, MCB Quantico, where he retired in 2015.

Mark accepted Christ as a child, but it was during a MEU deployment in 1993 that he rededicated his life to following Jesus. Since then, he has pursued Christ faithfully and now serves as a missionary with Tun Tavern Fellowship, discipling Marines and strengthening their families in the hope of the gospel. Mark is a member of Grace Church in Dumfries, VA, under the leadership of Bishop Derek Grier.

Serving Together-Mark & Tova

Mark met his wife, Tova, in 1981 through a mutual friend. The two were married in 1989 in Las Vegas, just as Mark reported to his second duty station and Tova transitioned out of the Marine Corps. Tova earned her Bachelor’s degree in Management (Human Resources) from Park University, while Mark completed his Bachelor’s in Business Administration (HR Management) from Strayer University.

Together they have raised three children and are proud grandparents.

Mark and Tova are passionate about serving Marines and their families through the ministry of Tun Tavern Fellowship, living out their calling side-by-side as a team in both life and mission.

Meet Mark Harrington

Born in Charlotte, NC, Mark retired from the Marine Corps as a LtCol after 24 years of service, with assignments in Naval Aviation, Supply and Logistics, IT, Program Management, and as an Information Management Officer. His leadership journey took him from flight school during the Gulf War to senior-level roles across the Corps.

Raised in a nominally Christian home, Mark came to a personal faith in Christ while in flight school. Influenced by fellow believers and encouraged by a Bible-teaching church, he began seeking God’s wisdom as he prepared for marriage. That pursuit led him to a deeper understanding of God’s love and ignited a passion for discipleship that continues to this day.

Since the inception of Tun Tavern Fellowship, Mark has served actively and now ministers as the TTF Quantico/National Capital Representative Network Missionary. His ministry is shaped by years of teaching, seminary coursework, counseling and coaching certification, and decades of discipleship—both receiving and investing in others. His aim is to help Marines and their families grow in relational love for Christ, equipping them to live out their faith with joy, peace, and strength.
